Physical, Chemical, and Biological Studies on the Virus of Vesicular Stomatitis of Horses
نویسنده
چکیده
A taxonomic study of the virus of vesicular stomatitis is presented along with evidence additional to that already reported(1) to show the similarity of this virus to that of foot-and-mouth disease. The connection of the two is discussed and the deduction drawn that their generic relationship is close. On the contrary, the differences between these two viruses and the herpetic are sufficiently marked to indicate a lack of generic connection among the three. The results of a comparative study on the effects of particular wave-lengths and energies of monochromatic ultra-violet light on the virus and on Staphylococcus aureus reveal that the adsorption of specific energies by the two is parallel. Since the adsorption of specific energies is an index of chemical character, these experiments suggest that the virus is similar in character and chemical constitution to bacterial protoplasm.

Objective(s):This study aims at exploring cytotoxic activity of different peptides derived from VSVG protein against MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cell lines and human embryonic kidney normal cell (HEK 293). Materials and Methods: The ANTICP web server was used to predict anticancer peptides. The cytotoxic activity of peptides with high score (P26, P7) and low score (P19) was examined b...
متن کاملVesicular Stomatitis: Epidemiology of the 1995 and 1997 Outbreaks in Colorado
Vesicular stomatitis is usually a mild, self-limiting disease in the horse, characterized by oral vesicles, ulcers or crusting of the muzzle, and difficulty eating. Horses are commonly subclinically affected during outbreaks. The exposure of horses to vesicular stomatitis virus may occur in nonoutbreak years in areas where vesicular stomatitis is common. Authors’ addresses: Dept. of Clinical Sc...
متن کاملEffect of Formalin on the Virus of Vesicular Stomatitis of Horses
The virus of vesicular stomatitis is not readily killed by formalin. This chemical is one of a group which coagulates the proteins of the medium in which the virus is usually contained. It has already been found(7) that other reagents of the protein-coagulating group are not actively virucidal) and the effect of formalin in this instance is therefore characteristic of the group. The so called f...
متن کاملVesicular stomatitis outbreak in the southwestern United States, 2012.
Vesicular stomatitis is a viral disease primarily affecting horses and cattle when it occurs in the United States. Outbreaks in the southwestern United States occur sporadically, with initial cases typically occurring in Texas, New Mexico, or Arizona and subsequent cases occurring in a northward progression. The viruses causing vesicular stomatitis can be transmitted by direct contact of lesion...
متن کاملAntimicrobial and Cytotoxic Activities of Turbinaria conoides (J.Agardh) Kuetz
Brown alga, Turbinaria conoides was successively extracted with n-hexane, cyclohexane, methanol and ethanol:water (1:1). The extracts were evaluated for antibacterial and antifungal activities by disc diffusion method. Minimal inhibitory concentration was determined for active extracts by broth dilution method. The antiviral activity and cytotoxicity of the extracts were tested in human embryon...
